What is sodium gluconate?

Sodium gluconateCAS 527-07-1 molecular formula: C6H13NaO7 molecular weight: 220.15 is a white or light yellow crystalline powder, soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol, insoluble in ether. Sodium gluconate is a deep-processed product of glucose, and is also a basic raw material for the preparation of Gluconolactone, gluconate (zinc, copper, ferrous salts) , etc. , in the food industry can be used as dietary supplement, curing agent, buffer, etc. . Due to its excellent chelating properties, it is widely used in water treatment, electroplating, surface cleaning of metal and non-metal, cement production and other industrial sectors, in the chemical industry, food, medicine, light industry and other industries have a wide range of uses.

Synthesis method

In industry, sodium gluconate is usually obtained from glucose-containing substances (e.g. cereals) by fermentation, in which the D-gluconic acid is first made from glucose and then neutralised by sodium hydroxide, it can also be synthesized by electrolysis and oxidation. Most of our country adopt chemical oxidation-sub-bromine oxidation method production synthesis. Sodium gluconate is non-toxic. Sodium gluconate and its chelates with heavy metal ions in water can be degraded rapidly and completely by ordinary biochemical treatment. The heavy metal ions released during the degradation process can be removed by precipitation or adsorption on the sludge formed during the wastewater treatment process.

Main uses of sodium gluconate

Sodium gluconate is widely used in food and industry. It can be used as efficient chelating agent and steel surface cleaning agent in construction, textile printing and dyeing, metal surface treatment and water treatment, bottle cleaning agent, electroplating industry aluminum oxide coloring, in the concrete industry as a high-performance retarder, high-performance water reducer.
